Eric Lyons in Knowle for five generations (since 1903) have been providing meat and fine foods from their shop in Knowle, Warwickshire. Sourcing locally wherever possible they pride themselves on traditional values with a modern approach to food and hygiene. The shop has recently had an extensive refit and Nick and Dan Lyons have developed a range of meals both sweet and savoury, with new lines on the way. They are still one of the finest butchers and piemakers around but now they sell delicatessen produce and delicious hot food!
Realising that after the refit they were going to have many more lines, Dave & Pete Lyons decided to move away from the traditional 'butchers shop' payment mode - whereby the customer pays at the counter - to a checkout sytem.
We supplied Avery Berkel XTi scales to Eric Lyons just a couple of years ago and they were covered under our service contract so we thought the best option would be to change all the scales to label printing scales with a price embedded barcode. Two touchscreen tills were then installed as checkouts, with metrologic barcode scanners, receipt printers, Ingenico PaymentSense credit card terminals and cash drawers. The touchscreen terminals were installed with ICRTouch TouchPoint software with TouchOffice Web (TOW) providing cloud based back office software. An extra Avery Berkel XTi100 was added for use in the bakery.
Customers now checkout like a traditional supermarket, bringing their basket to the till where the items are scanned — so no price lookups or item searches are required. The butchery and deli departments now no longer need to handle cash or credit card terminals, which — apart from being hygienically beneficial — provides a swifter service, which in turn has provided an enhanced customer experience.
With it's extensive reports, cloud based architecture and instant uploads, TOW now provides Dave & Pete with valuable sales insights on their pc and phones at the press of a button.
